Speaker: Steve Collet

“The talk will focus on the founding of both the Kern County Mineral Society and the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies, in 1935 and 1936, respectively. Mr. Paul VanderEike, who was hired from Minnesota to be the first dean at The Community College (now Bakersfield College) was instrumental in founding both groups. By the time VanderEike retired from the Kern County Union High School District in 1950, he was Assistant Superintendent. This talk will also discuss the catastrophic loss of the historical records of the Kern County Mineral Society and Steve Collett’s current responsibilities in rescuing and digitizing a large archive of California Federation documents that were nearly lost. And address the current and future status of the venerable Kern County Mineral Society.”

Lunch will be catered by Salty’s BBQ.
