Willows Springs was a Native American watering site, the Death Valley 49’ners found it after escaping Death Valley, every freighter, miner, pioneer and cowboy at one point enjoyed the oasis of Willow Spring. Tropico Mine was a large scale operation and it still exists today, unlike many famous mines of the Greenhorn and Piute Mountains.
